چکیده

Elicitator : an expert elicitation tool for regression in ecology. Abstract. Expert elicitation is the process of retrieving and quantifying expert knowledge in a particular domain. Such information is of particular value when the empirical data is expensive, limited or unreliable. This paper describes a new software tool, called Elicitator, which assists in quantifying expert knowledge in a form suitable for use as a prior model in Bayesian regression. Potential environmental domains for applying this elicitation tool include habitat modelling, assessing detectability or eradication, ecological condition assessments, risk analysis and quantifying inputs to complex models of ecological processes. The tool has been developed to be user-friendly, extensible and facilitate consistent and repeatable elicitation of expert knowledge across these various domains. We demonstrate its application to elicitation for logistic regression in a geographically-based ecological context. The underlying statistical methodology is also novel, utilizing an indirect elicitation approach to target expert knowledge on a case-by-case basis. For several elicitation sites (or cases), experts Page 2 of 56 are asked simply to quantify their estimated ecological response (e.g. probability of presence), and its range of plausible values, after inspecting (habitat) covariates via GIS. Program Size: 8.9Mb Format for importing data: Text-readable (ASCII) files in a custom file format Format for exporting output prior distributions: Text appropriate for input into WinBUGS 1.4

Designing Elicitor: Software to Graphically Elicit Expert Priors for Logistic Regression Models in Ecology. 2006

ELICITOR is graphical elicitation software created to elicit normal prior distributions for a Bayesian logistic regression model. Motivated by a real need to include expert knowledge in presence–absence models in ecology, this research describes a synthesis of theory from statistics, psychology and ecology. The aim was to build elicitation software that would be user friendly to environmental s...

A Web-based Tool for Expert Elicitation in Distributed Teams

We present in this paper a web-based tool developed to enable expert elicitation of the probabilities associated with a Bayesian Network. The motivation behind this tool is to enable assessment of probabilities from a distributed team of experts when face-to-face elicitation is not an option, for instance because of time and budget constraints. In addition to the ability to customize surveys, t...

EXPLICIT: a feasibility study of remote expert elicitation in health technology assessment

BACKGROUND Expert opinion is often sought to complement available information needed to inform model-based economic evaluations in health technology assessments. In this context, we define expert elicitation as the process of encoding expert opinion on a quantity of interest, together with associated uncertainty, as a probability distribution. When availability for face-to-face expert elicitati...

A web-based tool for eliciting probability distributions from experts

We present a web-based probability distribution elicitation tool: The MATCH Uncertainty Elicitation Tool. The Tool is designed to help elicit probability distributions about uncertain model parameters from experts, in situations where suitable data is either unavailable or sparse. The Tool is free to use, and offers five different techniques for eliciting univariate probability distributions. A...

Assessment of Critical Fire Risks in an Industrial Estate Using a Combination of Fuzzy Logic, Expert Elicitation, Bow-tie, and Monte Carlo Methods

Background and Objective: Industrial estates have been described as highly prone to fire incidents. According to the baseline studies, more than 85% of the industrial accidents occurring in industrial estates during the 80s and 90s were fire incidents affecting more than one factory in 10% of the cases.   Materials and Methods: After the identification of 30 high-risk industries in Abbasabad i...
